Scope and effective date

This policy takes effect on 10 September 2026 and covers slot-mafia-australia.com, an editorial site reviewing online casinos for an Australian audience. We publish reviews and guides. Bets, player funds and accounts never pass through the site, so there is little personal information we could collect even if we wanted to.

Personal information is handled under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the thirteen Australian Privacy Principles set out in Schedule 1 of that Act. If you read this site from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation applies to your visit, and the rights section below explains what that adds.

You can read every page without an account or login, and the site has no registration form. Everything described below either comes from the technical process of loading a page or is sent by you when you write to the editorial address.

What we collect

Collected automatically when a page loads

Your browser sends technical information to our server and to the services that keep the site online: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, screen and viewport size, the page you arrived from, the pages you open here, time spent on each, browser language, and the timestamp of every request. An approximate location at city or region level is derived from the IP address. This does not reveal a street address, and we do not try to narrow it down further.

Information you send us directly

If you email [email protected] we receive your address, whatever name is attached to it, the content of your message and any attachment you include. No part of the site asks for personal details, so please limit your message to the correction, question or complaint you want dealt with.

Cookies and similar identifiers

Cookies placed by this site store a random visitor identifier, your response to the consent banner and a small number of display preferences. The categories, their lifespans and the way to refuse them are documented in the cookie policy.

What we never collect

Readers often assume a gambling-related site collects the categories below, so we list them explicitly.

Why we use it

Collection is limited to what is reasonably necessary for running an editorial site, the standard set by Australian Privacy Principle 3. Four uses cover it:

  • Measuring which reviews and guides get read, so editorial time goes where readers spend theirs.
  • Serving pages correctly on your device, including layout, language and the consent choice you already made.
  • Keeping the site up: rate limiting, blocking automated abuse, diagnosing errors from server logs.
  • Answering correspondence, correcting published errors and dealing with complaints.

We build no advertising profiles and run no retargeting. Analytics data is not used to identify individual readers.

The lawful basis for handling it

Under the Privacy Act, our basis is that the information is reasonably necessary for our functions as a publisher, collected by lawful and fair means, and used only for the purposes listed above or a directly related purpose you would reasonably expect.

For readers covered by the GDPR the bases are narrower. Analytics and functional cookies rest on consent under Article 6(1)(a), given through the banner and withdrawable at any time. Security logging, abuse prevention and delivery of the pages themselves rest on legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f), weighed against data that is technical and short-lived. Correspondence is handled as steps taken at your request.

Third parties and where your data goes

Service providers

A small number of providers keep the site running, and each sees only what its job requires: a web analytics platform receiving page views and browser data, a content delivery and security network handling request metadata including your IP address, a host storing the site files and server logs, and an email provider carrying messages to and from the editorial address. None may use that data for their own marketing.

Overseas disclosure

Those providers operate infrastructure outside Australia, commonly in the United States, the European Union and Singapore. Australian Privacy Principle 8 requires reasonable steps to ensure an overseas recipient handles your information consistently with the APPs, and we rely on each provider’s contractual terms and published privacy commitments for that. Data stored on a server in another country is subject to that country’s law, including lawful access requests from its authorities. Declining analytics cookies in the banner stops the largest single flow of data overseas.

Disclosure required by law

We disclose information where Australian law requires it, such as a subpoena, warrant or valid regulator request. We do not hand over what we hold in any other circumstances.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles

APP 12 gives you the right to ask what personal information we hold about you and to receive a copy. Under APP 13 you can ask us to correct anything inaccurate, out of date or misleading. You may also ask us to delete information we no longer need. Requests are free, and we answer within 30 days.

Extra rights for EEA and UK readers

The GDPR adds erasure, restriction of processing, portability of data you provided to us, objection to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdrawal of consent at any time without affecting what was lawful before the withdrawal.

How to make a request

Email the editorial address with the word Privacy in the subject line and describe what you want done. Please note that for automatically collected data we usually cannot link a request to a specific reader. An IP address and a random analytics identifier do not tell us who you are, and we will not gather more information just to try. If we cannot identify you, we will tell you so.

Complaints

Please raise a complaint with us first so we have a fair chance to put it right. If you are not satisfied with our response, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner takes privacy complaints at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992. Readers in the EEA or the UK may complain to their national supervisory authority instead.

Security

The site runs over HTTPS, administrative access is limited to the people who publish and maintain it, and provider accounts carry multi-factor authentication. The main safeguard lies in how the site is built. It has no payments layer, user database or document storage, so a breach of this domain cannot expose your money or your ID. No online system is completely secure, and if a breach were likely to cause serious harm, affected people and the OAIC would be notified as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

Readers under 18

This site is for adults. Gambling in Australia is restricted to people aged 18 and over, our content is written for that audience, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. A parent or guardian who believes a minor has written to us should email the editorial address and we will delete the message.

Changes to this policy

This policy will be revised as our providers and the law change. The current version always appears on this page with its effective date at the top. Material changes to how your information is handled will be flagged on the page, and if you keep using the site after that, the revised version applies to you.

Contact

Write to [email protected] with privacy questions, access requests, corrections or complaints. We usually reply within a few business days and in any case within the 30 days the Privacy Act allows. The same address takes factual corrections to any review, including the bonus terms we publish, which operators revise more often than they announce.

Do you sell my data to casinos or advertisers?

No. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, we run no mailing list and we do not pass reader data to any operator. The only third parties involved are the analytics, hosting, security and email providers described above, and each sees only what its function requires.

Will the casino know I came from this site?

Not through anything we hand over. We do not send operators your email address, your name or your browsing history, and we hold no account with any casino that could be linked back to you.

Can I read the site without accepting cookies?

Yes. Decline everything except strictly necessary cookies and every page still works. Analytics stop counting you, that is the whole of the difference.

How do I ask what you hold about me?

Email [email protected] with Privacy in the subject line. We reply within 30 days. For automatically collected data we often cannot link a request to a particular reader, and we will tell you plainly when that is the case.

Where is my data stored?

On servers run by our providers, mostly in the United States, the European Union and Singapore. Australian Privacy Principle 8 requires us to take reasonable steps to hold those recipients to APP-equivalent handling, and we rely on their contractual terms to do so.

Who do I complain to if you get it wrong?

Write to us first. If the response is inadequate, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner accepts complaints at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
